With this new year 2022 beginning, also comes the time for good resolutions.
Take up sport 3 times a week, reduce your chocolate consumption, take time for yourself... New Year's resolutions are often linked to health and well-being 🏃
And yet, we easily forget that taking care of our teeth is also an integral part of our health and well-being!
So, we have put together a small list of good resolutions for you to take care of yourself and maintain top oral hygiene in this year 2022! 🦷
1. Stop brushing your teeth right after drinking tea or coffee.
Brush your teeth right after breakfast? Not really a good idea.
In fact, after consuming an acidic drink such as coffee, tea, orange juice... ☕ you must wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth properly ! Indeed, the acidity of these drinks coupled with toothbrushing could otherwise accelerate dental erosion , by damaging the enamel of your teeth !
2. Respect the recommended 2 minutes of brushing, twice a day.
The French brush their teeth for 43 seconds on average, while 2 minutes are recommended ⏱️. However, it is very important not to neglect this time of the day.
Electric toothbrushes can be a good way to extend brushing time to those famous 2 minutes because they are equipped with a timer that stops when your mission is finished. Plus, brushing is much more fun!
And if you ever get bored, you can always listen to a special toothbrushing playlist! 🎵
3. Use a certified organic natural toothpaste that contains fluoride (in limited dosage)
Toothpastes available in supermarkets, many of them contain controversial materials or are harmful to the environment: titanium dioxide, triclosan, disinfectants, micro plastic beads... ⚠️ And with all the complicated names (and often written in very small letters) displayed on the packaging, not always easy to navigate!
By choosing a 99% or 100% natural and certified organic toothpaste, you reduce the risk of negative effects on your health! 🍃
Regarding fluoride, it is very strongly recommended by dentists because it helps prevent the formation of cavities. However, be careful not to overdo it. In high doses, fluoride can also have negative effects on health. You must therefore be careful to respect the maximum recommended dosage, which is 1450ppm for adults and 950ppm for children. It’s all about balance! ⚖️
4. Use dental floss and interdental brushes.
It is said that brushing your teeth, when done correctly, is only 50% of the work. In fact, with brushing alone, it is impossible to completely eliminate food remains and dental plaque which can remain present in the interdental spaces 🍔
It is therefore imperative to use dental floss as well as interdental brushes on a daily basis to maintain good oral hygiene! ✔️
Learn about the correct way to use interdental brushes beforehand.
It’s a habit to get into but you’ll soon see that you won’t be able to do without it 😉
5. Visit your favorite dentist
Do you remember when was your last visit to the dentist? 🧑⚕️
If not, then it's probably time to go there to check that your teeth and gums are healthy.
Inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) can occur very quickly, without you even realizing it! So even if everything seems to be in order in your mouth, don't hesitate to visit your favorite dentist at least once this year!
And that's it, that's all for this little list of good resolutions ✅
We could tell you more, but we say that it is better not to overuse them in order to successfully respect each of them! 😀
